He suffered a pain in his back and found that he has three kidneys: A 38-year-old man went to the Hospital do Rim, in Sao Paulo, due to low back pain, but when the doctors began to examine him, they were very surprised.
The Brazilian, who suffered from pain in the back, discovered that he has three kidneys, an extremely rare condition that is only reported in 100 cases in the medical literature.
Fortunately, the man’s condition had nothing to do with his kidneys, but rather a herniated disc that led the medical team to perform a CT scan. It was in this examination that they noticed the presence of the extra organ, according to an article published in the New England Journal of Medicine that documented the process.
Generally, humans have two kidneys on the sides of the back, but this patient has a normal kidney on the left side and two fused kidneys that are located near his pelvis.
The doctors verified that the three kidneys of the man work well and that his kidney function is completely normal, so it did not require further intervention, so his herniated disc received the necessary treatment and was sent home.
And while this condition is very rare, generally no one is aware of it unless they must undergo a specialized examination for other reasons.
