The BCCI put out IPL schedule of the first two weeks of the Indian Premier League 2019 a few days back. The league begins on March 23, where defending champions Chennai Super Kings will lock horns with the Royal Challengers Bangalore. The match will take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai from 8:00 pm onwards which will be preceded by the opening ceremony.

Opening Match of IPL 2019

Here are the five top things at which it will be interesting to look at during the first match of this year’s IPL:

1. Opening Match of this Year’s IPL

The biggest cricket league of the world is not less than a festival for most of the parts of India and is one of the most awaited events. Just like the opening match of last year, where CSK defeated Mumbai Indians by a solitary wicket, something similar will be expected from the opening game of IPL 2019 as well.

2. MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli up against each other

It’s not often when we get to see the best of the Indian captains of the recent times playing against each other. It is only at the stage of IPL where both MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli face each other, leading two different sides. Both of them have always led their side from the front.

Apart from the two captains facing others, the rivalry of CSK and RCB is also a treat for the IPL fans. In the 23 matches that have been played between these two teams over the history of the league, 15 of them have been won by the Chennai Super Kings. However, it would be interesting to see how RCB would come in this season to improve their record.

3. IPL match in Chennai after a long time

The MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai will be hosting the first-ever match for this season and it will be a special one as its matches were shifted to Pune in the IPL 2018 after a single game after some protestors rebelled for the Kaveri River Treaty. Also, before last year, CSK was banned from the IPL, so, there could be no match organized at this stadium and has finally returned for the fans of the ‘Yellow Army’.

4. AB de Villiers first match of last season

Last year, AB de Villiers decided to retire from all forms of international cricket and was a shocker for the entire cricketing world. The IPL 2019 is expected to be his last time here and it will be interesting to see how begins it. De Villiers has been a true entertainer of the game and is also one of the top 10 run-getters of the Indian Premier League.

5. Players to watch out for

Apart from the captains of both the sides, there are a few other players as well who are expected to grab all the eyeballs during the opening match of IPL 2019. First will be Ambati Rayudu who was in absolutely flawless form last year and will be expected to continue with that. Shivam Dube, who was bought by RCB in this year’s auctions will also have a lot of anticipations upon him.
