A marriage of KGB spies, the murderer of fashion designer Gianni Versace, a criminal lawyer or a New York comedian. All these characters belong to the 10 best series of 2018, according to The American Film Institute (AFI). This year the ranking brings some other surprise … like the absence of titles like The Tale of the Maid, Westworld or The Crown.
Other absences in the ranking of AFI are explained by the issue of dates, as is the case of Game of Thrones, which is not on the list because, despite being chosen the best series in the Emmy Awards this year, did not premiere chapters in the year that ends.
The series that make up the top 10 this year are The Americans, an espionage drama set in the Cold War; American Crime Story: The murder of Gianni Versace , a miniseries that chronicles the criminal journey of the killer of the dressmaker and that features performers like Penelope Cruz , Ricky Martin and Edgar Ramirez; Atlanta , the fiction that addresses the immersion of two African-American cousins in the hip-hop world; Barry , written and directed by Alec Berg; and Pose , by Ryan Murphy.
The Breaking Bad prequel, Better Call Saul, completes the list of the best of the small screen; The wonderful Mrs. Maisel, comedy starring the award-winning Rachel Brosnahan; The Kominsky method, by Chuck Lorre; The succession, series that revolves around the life of the powerful and multimillionaire Redstone family; and This Is Us, the choral dramatic comedy by Dan Fogelman.
