A panel of three judges from that state determined on Monday that new electoral districts should be established before the legislative elections, which will be held on November 6 and in which the 435 seats in the House of Representatives and one-third of the seats will be renewed. 100 of the Senate.

The court held that North Carolina’s constituencies were unconstitutionally manipulated to help Republicans defeat the Democrats, giving reason to the Common Cause and League of Women Voters organizations, which had denounced the situation.

According to local media, lawmakers in North Carolina are likely to ask the Supreme Court to intervene in this case.

The decision can have important consequences for the legislative elections because North Carolina has become a very contested state.

In 2017 the Supreme Court invalidated a map of electoral districts in the state of North Carolina, considering that it harmed the vote of the African-American minority, which usually votes for Democrats over Republicans.
