Day 7, Full Moon, Day of the Masters-guru Purnima

Day of the Masters-guru Purnima

The Festival of Guru Purnima (The Full Moon of the Guru) is one of the most transcendental celebrations of the Hindu Culture. It is the day on which the Acharya (Masters, “those who practice what they preach”) are worshiped, who through their Infinite Compassion and Supreme Grace have imparted the Knowledge of the Absolute (Brahma Vidya) to all seekers of himself, as a way to achieve union with God.

This day of Poornima (full moon) in the month of Ashadha (July-August) is considered Holy. To understand the importance of this truly auspicious day, one must first understand the meaning of “Guru” (Spiritual Master).

The syllable “Gu” means: “darkness”; and “ru”: “one that dissipates, that destroys.” Then the word Guru means: “One that dissipates or destroys darkness.”

Guru (Spiritual Master) is the One who dissipates or destroys the darkness of ignorance by blessing his disciples (Bhakta) with true knowledge, the Knowledge of God. The sacred Hindu Scriptures agree on the essentials of a Spiritual Guide since being (jiva) cannot achieve enlightenment on its own, without the guidance of a Guru.

God expresses in the Scriptures that no one can obtain Him without surrendering first to a Guru, declaring that He does not give his knowledge and love directly, but that He does so through a Guru. without the guidance of a Guru.

Without the guidance of a Guru. God expresses in the Scriptures that no one can obtain Him without surrendering first to a Guru, declaring that He does not give his knowledge and love directly, but that He does so through a Guru.

It is very difficult for the human being, even transiting the path of the spiritual path, to love the abstract. For this reason, the Scriptures advise venerating those who take it to God; loving his physical presence as a Divine manifestation of HIM in human form. Thus, when God assumes a human form, HE establishes himself as the Guru.

The Guru is God manifested, becoming the Light, Inspiration, and Example of his disciples. The Guru and God are One because the Almighty and His Medium of Manifestation cannot be different.

The Guru embodies the aspects of Nirguna (God without attributes) and Saguna (God with attributes) of the Supreme Being (guna: qualities of nature). There are two conditions that a Guru must fulfill:

  1. Be an expert in all the Scriptures.
  2. Having achieved union with God.

The first condition can only be met by someone who has fulfilled the second condition since the one who has achieved realization in God is automatically granted perfect knowledge.

In this way the words of the Guru impart knowledge (Jnana) and dispel the ignorance causing the gradual separation of the material world and the permanent union with God; through the awakening of consciousness, the elevation of consciousness beyond the physical and the transformation of the spiritual seeker;

Whose exclusive job is to understand his true identity with God. The Bhagavadgita also gives the guidelines about who is a genuine Guru, saying that He is the one who imparts true knowledge free of speculation and never claims that He is God.

He knows that God is Supreme and men are subordinate to HIM. He knows the Truth and lives in it, and he is free from greed, lust, and anger.

He is an example of love, wisdom, peace, self-control, austerity, piety, tolerance and strong faith in God. He must come through a long and continuous succession of Acharya (Guru Parampara). At the time of initiation (Deeksha), the Guru absorbs the past sins and karmas of his disciples and reveals to them the true spiritual knowledge.

GOD IS THE GURU, the Omnipresent, the always pious, the witness who resides in the heart. Only GOD IS THE SADGURU. ”

The true meaning of Guru Purnima is not to worship the Guru with some offerings, but to get rid of the darkness of ignorance. Purnima refers to the full moon, which symbolizes the mind full of delight. There is a close relationship between the mind and the moon. Guru Purnima means the elimination of all darkness and all evil of the mind. The true Guru is in our heart.

Day of the Masters-guru Purnima

Purify your heart to allow the Lord to reside in him. Do not forget God; what they must do is forget the mundane. Guru Purnima is an occasion to cleanse the mind and make it absolutely pure. It is not enough to praise God; they have to love it, they have to become love itself so that they can love the whole universe.

I address you as “incarnations of love.” When you become incarnations of love, you can love everyone. Therefore, people must fill their minds with the all-encompassing principle of love.

To experience the totality of love you have to fill your hearts completely with love. That will result in total devotion. However, today devotion is not total.

The benefit is also partial: part-time devotees cannot expect to receive a full reward. The Lord confers full grace on those whose hearts are totally filled with devotion. You have a Guru within yourself. All the powers are within you.

Recognize that God is your preceptor. All are children of God; all are incarnations of the Godhead. Only God is the true Guru. ” To experience the totality of love you have to fill your hearts completely with love.
